My Story
I have always been attracted to the hidden world of nature and wanted to explore what lays beyond the visible. Studying biology (many years ago at Osnabruck University in Germany) and seeing the inside of cells and the workings behind our biochemical mechanism was fascinating. But science alone didn’t satisfy my curiosity. This is when I began to look at eastern philosophy and its view onto life and nature.
My journey of mindfulness began when I met my Tibetan Buddhist Teacher, Lama Tschaglung Tulku Ngawang Gelek, in Berlin in 2000. I delved into the world of meditation and Buddhist philosophy. I became a Meditation Instructor in 2004 and was one of three founders of the Buddhist Tara Centre. I am practicing self-awareness with a kind and non-judgemental attitude ever since. Meditation has become an anchor in my life and a major skill to support me in my daily activities and its challenges.
A few years later, I came across Shiatsu and fell in love with it. I completed the three-year Diploma course at the Shiatsu College in Dublin. These three years were interesting and challenging, but rewarding. I learnt to look at ailments with a different kind of eye. Instead of looking at symptoms alone, I learnt to look at the person, their lifestyle and their unique pattern of disharmony.
I undertook further training to become a teacher in 2015, being additionally awarded a QQI Level 6 teaching qualification in 2018. I also explored MBSR and TFT/EFT, which are a both a fusion of east and west. These have helped many people so far and they are especially great for people suffering with PTSD and anxiety.
In 2018 I founded Balance Matters which is based in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. I offer shiatsu treatments, meditation courses and facilitate Stress Resilience programmes and Mental Wellness retreats.
My practice and teaching of Shiatsu and meditation allows me to continuously explore and develop my interest in balancing body and mind, yin and yang, action and non-action, science and gut instinct.
Shiatsu and meditation have been my passion for many years now, and the more I learn the more I understand that finding balance in my life is the key to vitality and vigour.
