My Story
I have always been fascinated by the hidden world of nature, beyond what the eye can see. My journey began with studying biology at Osnabruck University in Germany, where I discovered the intricate workings of cells and our biochemical mechanisms. However, science alone couldn't satisfy my curiosity, leading me to explore Eastern philosophy and its perspective on life and nature.
My mindfulness journey started in 2000 when I met my Tibetan Buddhist Teacher, Lama Tschaglung Tulku Ngawang Gelek, in Berlin. Immersing myself in meditation and Buddhist philosophy, I became a Meditation Instructor in 2004 and co-founded the Buddhist Tara Centre. Since then, I have practiced self-awareness with kindness and non-judgment, making meditation my anchor through daily challenges.
A few years later, I fell in love with Shiatsu and pursued a three-year Diploma course at the Shiatsu College in Dublin. Those years were challenging yet immensely rewarding, teaching me to view ailments holistically, considering a person's lifestyle and unique patterns of disharmony.
In 2015, I advanced my training to become a teacher, earning a QQI Level 6 teaching qualification in 2018. I also delved into MBSR and TFT/EFT, blending Eastern and Western practices to help people, particularly those with PTSD and anxiety. In 2018, I founded Balance Matters in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, offering Shiatsu treatments, meditation courses, and facilitating Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma, Stress Resilience classes, and Wellness retreats. In 2024, I took up the Chair of the Shiatsu Society of Ireland, committed to promoting the professional practice of Shiatsu as a healing art.
My practice and teaching of Shiatsu and meditation allow me to continuously explore and develop my interest in balancing body and mind, yin and yang, action and non-action, science and intuition. These passions have been a cornerstone of my life for many years, reinforcing my understanding that balance is the key to vitality and strength.
