My Story
I have always been drawn to the hidden world of nature and wanted to explore what lays beyond the visible. Studying biology (many years ago at Osnabruck University in Germany) and seeing the inside of cells and the workings behind our biochemical mechanism was fascinating. But science alone didn’t satisfy my curiosity. This is when I began to look at eastern philosophy and its view onto life and nature.
My journey of mindfulness began in 2000 when I met my Tibetan Buddhist Teacher, Lama Tschaglung Tulku Ngawang Gelek, in Berlin. I delved into the world of meditation and Buddhist philosophy. I became a Meditation Instructor in 2004 and was one of three founders of the Buddhist Tara Centre. I have practiced self-awareness with a kind and non-judgemental attitude ever since. Meditation became my anchor, a major skill supporting me through daily activities and challenges.
A few years later, I discovered Shiatsu and fell in love with it. I completed the three-year Diploma course at the Shiatsu College in Dublin. Those three years were interesting and challenging but incredibly rewarding. I learned to view ailments holistically, considering the person's lifestyle and unique patterns of disharmony, rather than just the symptoms.
In 2015, I furthered my training to become a teacher and earned a QQI Level 6 teaching qualification in
2018. I also explored MBSR and TFT/EFT, which are a both a fusion of east and west. Those have helped many people so far and they are especially great for people suffering with PTSD and anxiety.
In 2018 I founded Balance Matters in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. I offer shiatsu treatments, meditation courses and facilitate Shiatsu Practitioner Qualification Diploma, Stress Resilience classes and Wellness retreats.
In 2024 I took up the Chair of the Shiatsu Society of Ireland and am committed to promote the professional practice of shiatsu as a healing art.
My practice and teaching of Shiatsu and meditation allow me to continuously explore and develop my interest in balancing body and mind, yin and yang, action and non-action, science and gut instinct.
Shiatsu and meditation have been my passion for many years, and the more I learn the more I understand that finding balance in life is the key to vitality and strength.
